Discussion:
Saving multiple sheets into 1 pdf form
(too old to reply)

When I try to save 2 excel sheets (in 1 workbook) into 1 pdf file it saves them individually. Of course my fellow PC user can save the 2 sheets into 1 pdf file (multiple pages) but I cannot seem to figure it out for a MAC. Is it just not an option?
Thank you!!

Unfortunately Apple & MS are both saddled with the same Adobe Acrobat
limitations on the Mac, but there is a relatively simple workaround...

Generate the multiple PDFs then open"page 1" in Apples Preview app and
display the Drawer (now called a Sidebar). Bring a Finder window up,
navigate to where the other "pages" are stored & drag them into the Drawer
(you can select & drag more than one at a time). Rearrange if necessary &
SAVE as a single PDF. If you happen to have Acrobat you can combine the PDFs
there as well as with a number of PDF "stitcher" utilities available on the
web ‹ most of which are freeware/shareware.

have the same problem.

I contacted Adobe and they said that the problem is with the WAY EXCEL SENDS THE WORKSHEETS TO ADOBE ACROBAT. This means that technically the problem is with the way Excel has been designed. i confirmed this for myself when i created another workbook in IWorks' Numbers and it printed the whole worksheet as one pdf file without any problem.

The workaround you've prescribed is TOO LONG A PROCESS WHEN I CAN JUST DO ONE CLICK IN OTHER PRODUCTS AND GET THE RESULT THAT I WANT.

I (AND I'M SURE MANY EXCEL FOR MAC USERS) WILL REALLY APPRECIATE THIS PROBLEM BEING FIXED INSTEAD OF BEING TOLD TO DO A TEN CLICK AND PROCESSES WORKAROUND.

THANK YOU,

Perhaps you might like to ask Adobe why they continue to sing the same old
song when Mac Excel sends content in exactly the same manner that PC Excel
does, yet the phenomenon doesn't occur on a PC. While you're at it you might
also ask them why their PDF *printer* can't reproduce in a file what
literally every other printer driver on the planet has no problem with :-)

It might also be interesting to know what Adobe has to say about why the
Acrobat 9 PDF driver *can* avoid multiple PDFs from a single file but the
utility they're offering Apple & MS for use on Macs just doesn't seem to
have the same capabilities... You do realize that virtually *all* PDF
generators are licensed from Adobe, right?

You might want to ask Microsoft why they sing the same old song too... There are no innocents in the software industry, only the guilty.

Who did you think you are shouting at?

Did you imagine Microsoft or Adobe were reading here? Sorry to burst your
bubble, but there's no-one here but us fellow users.

Some of us have ideas about things we would like the Microsoft Corporation
to do, also. But we don't work there, and we have no say in the matter.

We come in here trying to offer fellow users a way to use the software the
way Microsoft made it. Nobody pays us for this: we are just trying to help
people because it makes us feel good.

At least, it makes us feel good except when ungrateful types shout at us...

Yeah, I guess I didn't give you enough detail :-) Although I'm using Preview
5.0 in Snow Leopard IIRC this will also do the job in 4.x...

Select an item in the Sidebar, then Command+A to Select All
Use File> Print Selected Pages
Hit the PDF button in the Print dialog & select Save As PDF (or whatever) &
go from there.

Thanks Cyber Taz, magic.

However what I did was:

- Command+A to Select All
- Tick Scaling Fit to " 1 "
- Bottom left corner, save as PDF

Im assuming I could also PRINT in one page and look tech smart, rather than the norm
of chopping up my 1 page work in half and look suspicious :-D !

Thank you!

Worked like a charm - many thanks! The trick for me was "printing" as pdf in preview not "saving".

2.5 years later and the problem is still there for Excel 2011 and the PDF printer. I am not so sure I ascribe to the Adobe conspiracy theory, but what do I know - I'm just a user. Maybe I should try the Mac workbook... at least for PDF printing, which I have to do all the time. OR... any updates on more efficient workarounds??? My workbooks have many pages, and dragging them all into preview frequently rearranges the pages.

If anyone from Microsoft does read this, please be aware that those of us who support printers get calls about this all the time, and there isn't a thing we can do about it, because Excel jobs are separated by the sheet. Under Windows, page setup applies only to the individual spreadsheet, rather than to the entire workbook. On the Mac side, it sends jobs separately, which makes it impossible to do stapled/duplexed sets without some complex workarounds.

I'll never know why Microsoft hasn't fixed this; it's been an issue for us for at least 10 years, and it has resulted in some furious customers.

Hi,
I'm no expert but this seems to work for me. I select the tabs I want, then click on print preview. The file will show up in pdf then I save a copy of it. Keep in mind, acrobat is my default application for print preview, instead of "Preview" app. Hope it works for you :)
